Small Group Instruction

This school year, Twin Cedars Elementary is using i-Ready to gain a clearer picture of student learning and make more informed instructional decisions. All Kindergarten–6th grade students will complete the i-Ready Inform Diagnostic Assessment in reading and math three times throughout the year. The results help teachers identify each student's strengths and pinpoint specific learning needs.

The i-Ready assessment provides detailed information about student learning in areas such as phonics, vocabulary, and reading comprehension, as well as math skills including number operations, algebraic thinking, measurement, and geometry. More importantly, i-Ready helps us turn data into action! Teachers can use the results to group students with similar learning needs, plan targeted small-group instruction, and provide personalized learning opportunities. Our teachers will regularly review this information during collaborative team meetings to make instructional decisions and monitor student progress.

Personalized Learning with MyPath

Another valuable part of i-Ready is MyPath, an online learning program that creates a personalized learning path for each student based on their assessment results. Rather than having every student complete the same lessons, MyPath provides interactive lessons and practice activities that focus on the specific skills each student is ready to learn.

For example:

  • A student working on foundational reading skills may receive lessons focused on blending sounds, decoding words, or building reading fluency.

  • A student ready for more challenging reading skills may work on vocabulary, making inferences, or understanding more complex texts.

  • A student needing additional math practice may receive lessons focused on place value, addition, subtraction, or multiplication.

  • A student demonstrating strong math skills may work on more advanced concepts that build upon their current understanding.

As students complete lessons and demonstrate understanding, MyPath helps guide them toward their next learning goals. Teachers can monitor progress, celebrate accomplishments, and provide additional support when needed. MyPath does not replace classroom instruction. Instead, it provides another opportunity for students to strengthen skills, build confidence, and grow at their own pace.

Partnering with Families

Families will have an opportunity to review their child's fall i-Ready results during October Parent-Teacher Conferences. These conversations will highlight student strengths and identify next steps for learning.

Through use of student data, collaboration among teachers, and strong partnerships with families, we can make learning more meaningful and responsive to each student's needs. This work directly supports our district's commitment to data-driven instruction and our mission: "Growing, learning, leading…A place to belong."
