Calendar

Dear Parent,

As we get closer to the start of the school year, we want to bring to your attention some important changes to the school calendar. Wednesday early-outs will now be 90 minutes instead of one hour. Research shows that teaching quality and school leadership are the most important factors in raising student achievement. We will use this extra time for our staff to plan, work together, and improve their skills on behalf of our students.

School districts are required to schedule 1080 hours of instructional time. In past years our district has scheduled many more than the required hours. Then, each year, we wait until late April to decide if we are making up time missed due to weather or some other reason. In recent years, we haven’t made up the missed days because we still met the required 1080 hours. However, this late decision makes it difficult for families and staff to plan their summers.

This year, we scheduled exactly 1080 hours on the school calendar. This means that we will be required to make up all of the hours that we miss for late starts, early outs, or cancellations. The advantage is knowing in advance that we will make up the missed hours, and you can track them as the school year progresses to know when the last day of school will be. Of course, we will still send out a message at the end of the year to let you know when the official “last day” of school will be in case you aren’t keeping track.
